House Geckos

Scientific Name: Hemidactylus turcicus (Mediterranean House Geckos) & Hemidactylus frenatus (Common House Geckos)
Size: 3–6 in (7.62 - 15.24cm)
Status: Nonnative

Habitat:
Often seen around homes or other buildings.

Description:
House Geckos are a nonnative species that have established populations in few Southeastern Pennsylvania counties. This species has been documented as thriving and breeding in a few residential areas. This species is found around homes and other buildings where it uses them as shelter to survive the winter.

Adult Coloration:
  • The body is light gray with darker mottling.
Adult Characteristics:
  • Warty/rough skin (Hemidactylus turcicus)
  • Sticky toe pads
  • Vertical pupils
  • Large eyes that lack eyelids
